This year was incredible! 198 racers brought in 7,507lbs of food for the San Francisco Food Bank! We'll have more information about the race coming over the next several days, including place stats for all racers, details on our huge team of organizers and volunteers, as well as information on general race stats and categories. In the meantime, here are the basics:
Total food collection for 2009's race: 7,507lbs.
Total food collection from speed race: 1,287lbs.
Total food collection from cargo race: 6,220lbs.
Our overall winner was Jeremiah, who pedaled in a whopping 962lbs! He walked away with the Long Haul Trucker frameset from our headline sponsor, Box Dog Bikes, as well as with one of the custom Crumpler bags stuffed with a SMSW t-shirt and some gift certificates. He also won a few other small items for his epic efforts. This guy gave a truly incredible performance at the race, and his food collections will have a great impact on those in need. Thanks, Jeremiah! You rock!
Here are our other top winners:
Cargo - First Road - Trailerless: Benjamin Sanrazin, 330lbs.
Cargo - First Fixed - Trailerless: Corey Warner, 104lbs.
Speed - First Fixed - Boy: Adam Shapiro
Speed - First Fixed - Girl: Sarah Murder
Speed - First Road - Boy: Steve "Baby Murder" Tortorelli
Speed - First Road - Girl: Ruth Emerson
This year's race proved that we need to add a Women's Cargo category for next year. We're also already working on a strategy to call more winners in less time at the after party so that we can reward more participants before time runs out, and with far less chaos.
Stay tuned for more post-race wrap-ups for 2009, and thanks again to all of our generous sponsors, and to the racers for their amazing generosity and support of this epic event!
