Thank you all for making this another wonderful year for the Supermarket Street Sweep! While the weather wasn't ideal this weekend and reduced our numbers this year, Mother Nature did her best to help us out and gave us a break in the weather during the actual race. We even received a rainbow at the start:
But the threat of rain didn't stop lots of intrepid veterans and new faces coming to the start! Our final tally shows that 128 racers registered at the Bow & Arrow and 119 completed the entire race. (Here they are doing their last-minute strategizing before we let them go...)
Our fine Sweepers raised a staggering 6,552 lbs of food, which is pretty impressive given our smaller group! In 2010, when rain was also predicted (but we lucked out then as well and had clear skies), we had 171 racers who brought in 6,920 lbs. of food. So this year's crew worked extra hard - and we and the San Francisco and Marin Food Banks greatly appreciate it!
We also raised $6,606 through FirstGiving, and last year's Cargo race winners Eric and Cooper Downing donated an additional $250 at the finish. We also had $210 come in at the after party through our awesome 21st Amendment beer donation, and Bridget May and Pamela Palma will be donating $339.64, the leftover amount from their Cargo Sweep efforts. And we heard someone was planning on doing a matching grant for the amount of food that was raised. So we'll keep you posted on the final cash total we brought in this year!
A huge thanks goes out to all of our wonderful sponsors, helpful volunteers, rideSFO for hosting the after party, and to Kalie, Tiffany and Blaine at the SF and Marin Food Banks and of course, to all of you for helping families in need. Thanks for your patience as we improve the race every year, and we apologize for any mistakes we made in calculating the results. We strive to make it more fun each time and look forward to seeing you next year!
P.S. Watch Koshi's Flickr feed for your finish line photos. Email Jeff at theloinsf if you'd like to order a Sweep t-shirt. More photos here at flickr.com/plattyjo and Pamela Palma's Facebook page and Flickr.
